Year 1 to Year 6

At Harris Fields State School, our Year 1 to Year 6 classrooms are busy, welcoming places where children are supported to grow, learn and shine.

Students enjoy a balanced learning program aligned with the Australian Curriculum, with a strong focus on building skills in reading, writing, numeracy and problem-solving. Teachers create engaging lessons that support each child to learn at their own pace and develop confidence as learners.

In addition to classroom learning, students participate in a range of specialist lessons, which may include Health and Physical Education, The Arts and other enrichment programs. These experiences help children discover new interests, develop talents and enjoy learning in different ways.

We are proud of our culturally diverse school community and value the rich experiences this brings to our learning. Students are supported to learn about and celebrate different cultures, perspectives and traditions, helping them develop respect, empathy and a strong sense of belonging.

Student wellbeing is a priority at HFSS. Through our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) approach, children are guided to follow our school expectations — Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be a Learner — and to build positive relationships with peers and staff.

Our Year 1 to Year 6 educational provision supports children to become confident, capable and caring young people, well prepared for the transition to secondary school.
